Engage Parliament To Promulgate Laws Against Commercialisation Of GMOs Soyabeans In Ghana- Chief Of Staff, Agric Minister Told

Soya Value Chain Association of Ghana is calling on the Chief of Staff, Jubilee House and the Minister of Food and Agriculture to engage Parliament to Promulgate Laws against the commercialisation of GMOs soya beans in Ghana.

According to the association, Ghana will not stand to benefit in a way from accepting to cultivate GMO soyabean seeds.

Speaking to the media, at the Ghana International Press Centre, Mr Yaw Afrifa Anim, the Executive Secretary of Soya Value Chain Association of Ghana said the Association is very worrying with the steps being taken by government to commercialize the cultivation of GMO soyabean seeds in Ghana.

Mr Yaw Afrifa Anim’s address, pleaded with government to protect and maintain the Ghanaian NON-GMO soyabean production.

He opined that with the acceptance of GMO soyabean seeds to Ghana there will be massive unemployment and loss of livelihood for all who benefit from the soyabean value chain in Ghana.

He stated emphatically that the GMO soyabean seeds in Ghana will have a negative impact on the economy. Saying the farmers in all the six northern region are into soyabean cultivation.
